I asked the manager what was playing and he told me "Ray Lynch" He said I might be able to find it in the new age section of a record store. A couple of monthes later I was at Tower Records in Washington DC and I found the one Ray Lynch album, the "Best Of, Volume !". I love it and my teenager daughter claims I am more obsessed than she is about her boy bands. Fine by me! My favorite piece is "The Music of What Happens". I would like to know what Ray Lynch listens to, besides, his own music. ![]() name: Stephen Miller age: 18 profession: Computer Tech. place: Huntsville, AL USA website: http://home.collegeclub.com/millersj/ time: Wednesday, December 22, 1999 at 03:32:11 (EST) subject: Your Music, and our town's pop culture You probably would not believe it, that in a backwoods town like Huntsville, AL that your type of music is popular. In fact, the music is TOO popular. Everywhere you go, (pop culture wise), You hear something of Ray Lynch's. I was surprised when I moved here from Miami, FL to hear his music, and I was able to find more of his albums here, than I could fond in Miami. I just want to tahnk you for your wonderful music, and cannot wait for your new album to hit our shelves. I have a friend that works at a music store, and he said when your last album came out, It sold out after 3 hrs. We love your music, and the effect you are bringing on pop culture. I believe that you have helped bring this town out of the 50's and into the 90's by making your music so beautifully. Sincerely, Stephen Miller ![]() name: julie hoskins age: 37 profession: banker place: lakeport, ca USA time: Tuesday, December 21, 1999 at 21:43:29 (EST) subject: visit to website i really enjoyed visiting website.i am impressed with features as well as history of what you do. i enjoy helping kathleen and wish the best on your web adventure ![]() name: Rohn M. Among the instrumental music I was scanning for my new restaurant was a copy of your best of album. I listened to the 1st, then the second track on the album via the listening station provided by the small, funky store on Phinney Ridge, and I was amazed; my ears woke up to an incredible sound. I now listen and share you with hundreds of guests of my The Main Street Ale House in Kingston, WA on a JBL surround Sound system at a volume level that fully demonstrates your symphonic mastery and digital capabilities. My guests have asked me for information as to where they can find your albums. I show them your cd cover and they huriedly write down your web adress. I am so proud to play your music at my restaurant and my home! Although no longer a student in the formal sense I see some of the Boston folks when they come to my town to speak about this teaching. Anyway your music has always had an overwhelming effect on me. I love all of it but have some real favorites which seem to change over time. The Music Of What Happens, is my current one followed closely by Ralph's Rhapsody and The True Spirit Of Mom And Dad from your Best Of CD. Prior to that I favored Over Easy and the entire Deep Breakfast cast. But my all time #1 is Your Feeling Shoulders. That piece opens me up like nothing I've ever heard; tears, smiles, chills, everything spills from its emotional containment. And what's left is pure tranquility......! I bought six tapes of Deep Breakfast to give to each of my wife's and my parents and siblings. That was 13 years ago. This Christmas my sister will be receiving your Best of Ray Lynch CD. So I guess I'm sending you 13 years worth of THANKS! Sincerely, Steve Severin ![]() name: Andy Kolb age: 41 profession: Intl. I cannot begin to tell you the emotion I feel when I am listening to your CD's. You seem to capture the whole spectrum. My boyfriend laughs at me (in a kind way) when, at some songs, I start to cry. He asks me why I listen if it makes me do that. I cry because in this busy world, we shut off alot of emotions to get through the workday. I enjoy reconnecting with those emotions. Your music takes me so many places, to so many different times in my life. (in this world and beyond) You are one amazing musician. I have waited so long to send you this message. Almost half my life. I thank the Divine for you. You have touched my life and obviously many others through your music. Bravo!!! the emotion conveyed in this recording is unparalleled; deep, honest, sad, hopeful--an incredible range. i also love 'No Blue Thing' and have only been waiting patiently for more "new" music. i am in appreciation of your mastery. ![]() name: Douglas M. I just wanted to say that Ray Lynch's music is, and has been, a big part of my life. I received a copy of the tape about 9 years ago, and didn't know anything about the artist. Of course I have all his music now, and love every one of the songs. I totally agree with some of the fans who have written in that the Vanished Gardens of Cordoba is an all time favorite. I go on trips and that song alone in an inspiration and like a prayer to me. I know that it is my favorite song of all times . I know all this has been said before but thank you Ray Lynch for sharing your talent an your thoughts through your most beautiful music. ![]() name: Amber Snow age: 15 profession: H.S. My brother, who is 16 years older than me, went into the air force when I was about 3 and sent us home some of his "relaxation music" that they gave him in boot camp, which was a tape of Deep Breakfast, and I loved it the instant I heard it. Celestial SodaPop and No Blue Thing are my absolute fave songs in the world now -- I listen to them all the time! I have been searching aimlessly for the past ten years. A couple of weeks ago, I went to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where they do a laser show. One of the songs was my all-time favorite from this battered tape I still have. I e-mailed Stone Mountain when I returned home, and they kindly informed me that the song was "Celestial Soap Bubbles" from Ray Lynch. I searched the web, found a site, and ordered everything in sight! The wonders of modern technology! I could never say how much the music on "Deep Breakfast" meant to me for all those years, even though it was just a nameless tape to me until this afternoon. I have enjoyed all your music, but none as much as "The vanished gardens of Cordoba. While I grew up on rock and roll (and still listen), I have searched for other types of music to help "quiet" my soul. Too many times I have had too strain my ears (and my attention) to "hear" what other artists perform. Finally, I have found music that both pleases my ears and relaxes my soul. And now a 1 1/2 later when she won't calm down in the car seat or at home I just play that tape and she calms down almost instantly. That tape has been a big part of my life we even listened to it the entire time my wife was in labor, it helped her as well as my self. It has traveled half way around the world TWICE with me and has been through 2 conflicts in the world and no matter how stressed me or anybody I worked with got that always seemed to help. Brunello age: 24 profession: sound designer place: Los Angeles, CA USA time: Saturday, July 10, 1999 at 01:06:16 (EDT) subject: The effect of Ray's music. I was introduced to Ray Lynch's work by a friend during high school. I only wish this had happened sooner, because Ray's music has really been with me ever since. I write to it, I work and edit to it, I drive to it, I just sit and focus on it musically. I'm sure that Ray drew from his own emotions and reasons for writing his music, but I find that I, and fellow lovers of Ray's work, discover ourselves through it. It's almost as if Ray had some power to see into our dreams and emotions and visit the secret places that each person has and retreats to for solitude, and that Ray turned those feelings and desires into music. I find that listening to his music lets me find my hidden parts of the imagination and the heart, as if Ray had known all along where our minds like to wander and has readied it in musical form for us to discover and enjoy. I think we are very fortunate to have Ray's music in our lives, as it affects us each differently and deeply. I hope that I can achieve the same mastery, both technical and aesthetic, of my work as Ray has with his music. ![]() name: Sonny Kaufhold age: 45 profession: Civil Servant place: Kerrville, tx USA time: Tuesday, July 06, 1999 at 11:53:30 (EDT) I was introduced to your music through 'Deep Breakfast' several years ago. Dear Mr. Lynch: Unlike most of my friends, I listen to classical music instead of pop. Well, my science teacher, Mr. Wiesike, knew that I liked different kinds of music. After I lent him a Star Wars Trilogy CD (he's a huge fan), he insisted that he let me listen to his favorite CD for a while, by someone called Ray Lynch. I had no idea who you were, only that you did something called "classical pop." I brought my teacher's CD home and debated whether to listen or not. Well, curiosity finally won me over, and I heard "Ralph's Rhapsody" on Best Of pouring out of the speakers. I was fascinated. Never had I heard anything like this. I listened to the entire CD a few times over that week, and then reluctantly gave it back to my teacher. "Did you like it?" he said. "I LOVED it." I replied. Later I went on Amazon.com and looked Best Of up. I saved up my allowance and bought it, and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I always play this music to put me to sleep, or when doing homework, or to relieve stress, or just because! I have since memorized the entire CD and spread the word to my friends(one of whom bought it!). My favorite part about your music is that each melody and harmony is beautiful. You don't ever overdo the electronics- you instead balance it with instruments used in classical music. I love The Music of What Happens- because I play the violin, and I love Celestial Soda Pop and The True Spirit of Mom and Dad- in fact, I love the whole CD! You are a total genius! Thank you for creating such beautiful music. Sincerely, Gabriella P.S. Looking forward to Best Of- Volume 2!!!! ![]() name: Paul Vallee age: 36 profession: Financial specialist, former rest. owner place: Surfside Beach, SC USA time: Thursday, June 24, 1999 at 23:05:16 (EDT) subject: Your music Let me try to explain it this way. My taste ranges from Bach, Mozart, and Vivaldi, to the Doors, and contemporary (David Lanz etc.) I have an ear for good music(there's alot of JUNK out there), and I'm open minded. But what strikes me most is when I hear music so strong, so compelling, that it rivets me from the first time. It's very rare. "Nothing Above My Shoulders..." is that album. The first time I heard it I was literally riveted, my ear carefully taking in every sound. I could tell right away that this was the result of an incredible amount of work, patience, and discipline. Real artistic discipine. There is not one, not even one misplaced note. Not in the whole album! And the more you listen to it, the more you realize this gift, and it is truly a gift, has to offer. This is truly music that compels the listener to detach from all of life's thoughts and dedicate your senses to what it has to offer. It is the only music that I have felt with all of my senses... Each song is strong by itself, but to listen to only one track is to miss the point. "Nothing above my shoulders.." is a tapestry of sounds, compelling and timeless...carefully woven like fine silk...each stich in its unique way continuing where that last left off...a timeless story that you could listen to forever...the kind of music you hope they play in heaven...or on your wedding night...special, very special. What is best about this album is that if there is a masterpiece that stands out (and it's hard to pick the finest diamond in the sachel of gems) it's logically and musically the final track, "The vanished gardens of cordoba". This track is special by itself, but as the crown jewel of this album, it is the perfect finally to the story. My only regret is that this was my first Ray Lynch album, and I excitedly went out and bought the rest. I'm sure they're nice, and one day I'll really give them a chance. But this album is THAT compelling, I have NEVER heard anything that holds a candle to this. I eagerly await what you have to offer, Ray, and yet sympathise with your dilemna. This album is the pinnacle of the career of an obviously dedicated and bright artist who loves art, not money. I only pray that Ray continues to do it for the love, and forget about mine or anyone else's expectations...that way your talents will truly shine. For you fans who haven't yet heard it, take an evening, dim the lights, light a candle and put everything else on your mind aside...if you're in love, listen alone the first time, then together. I played this album in my restaurant every night, and ALL kinds of people would say, "I have to have that CD!)...See for yourself And by the way, Thanks Ray. You have given a gift that is truly priceless. ![]() name: John David Earnest age: 58 profession: Composer place: New York , NY USA time: Thursday, June 24, 1999 at 18:08:08 (EDT) Ray - What a pleasure to find your "Best Of" album the other day and to locate this web site; it brings back many memories of the legendary European tour in 1966 of the UT Chamber Singers. Primarily stuck in the '50's and early '60's, I also enjoy country from that same period, classical, the Rolling Stones and occasionally a current musical hit. Since I first listened to Deep Breakfast, I have been a devoted fan. I then bought the remainder of his albums (except Best of). A tremendous talent. My only "regret" is that his albums are released so infrequently. But for what he has released, thank him! ![]() OLDER ENTRIES |
